Meet the Mechanic - Lee W
How did you begin working in the commercial vehicle industry?
I’ve been working in the commercial vehicle industry all my life. I started off working as an apprentice and I never left the industry! I’ve been at TIP for the past 5 years.
What do you like about working for TIP?
I like being able to work independently and be my own boss. I’ve been in my current role for 4 years and I’ve built good relationships with our customers and have a good rapport with them too. They call me whenever they need anything and I’m always on hand to help.
What’s your biggest work achievement?
My biggest work achievement is working with TIP’s customers. I’m mostly on customer sites so it’s an important part of the job.
What does a typical day at work involve for you?
In the mornings I usually take damage-related calls so I can get drivers out the door before the day begins. The rest of the day is split between working at a couple of large customer sites managing defects, going to breakdowns or taking calls from customers asking for advice.
What are the top 3 most valuable skills you’ve learnt whilst working at TIP?
- Communication
- Learning to work by myself
- Building relationships with customers and colleagues
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to go to the gym and if I’m not there, I like to be at the football. I’m a big Sunderland fan.
Can you tell us an interesting fact about yourself?
I’ve got 4 horses as pets. My wife, daughter and son ride them.
