Meet the TIP Used Team - Russell Leech
Name: Russell Leech
Job Title: Remarketing Manager
TIP Base Location: Warrington
Start month at TIP: April 23
How long have you been in the industry and how did you get into it?
It was an opportunity that I stumbled across and, at the time, I knew nothing about commercial vehicles or logistics. The position seemed interesting and 20 years later, I’m still in the industry.
What are the top 3 things you like about working for TIP?
First of all, the people, the brand and the culture.
What are the most valuable skills you learnt/developed whilst working for TIP Used?
I have learnt the importance of collaboration. It is very nice to be involved with a company where everyone pulls in the same direction and there is ‘joined-up’ thinking.
What does a typical day for you involve?
My typical day is made up of matching vehicles to customers’ requirements, ensuring vehicles are presented well and customer expectations are met. Then there’s the ‘admin’!
What is your biggest work achievement?
That would be for other people to say. In this industry you are only as good as your last deal.
What are your top 3 tips to purchasing a used trailer/truck?
Know a vehicles history, know a vehicles history, know a vehicles history. First, second and third - this is the most important thing to know!
What part of your job do you find most enjoyable?
People - it’s a real people job.
What are some of the advantages of purchasing used rather than new equipment?
The obvious advantage is cost. A well-maintained truck will produce the same amount of work as a brand new one.
Does TIP Used offer any other related services post-sale?
On request, we can offer service packages through our dealer network.
Where do you see TIP Used in 5 years from now?
I am sure that we will be the ‘go-to’ dealers of choice for used vehicles.
What’s a mistake you made early on in your career, and what did you learn from it?
Being eager to impress means you don’t listen as you should. I learned you have two ears and one mouth for a reason. Listen!
What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
“Your health is your wealth” - Peter Kendall
What skills are required in your position on a day-to-day basis?
Listening to customer requirements, as this will lead to a better match of vehicle to a customer’s requirements.
