Meet the Sales Guy - Mark Jones
TIP base location:
Carrington
How long have you been in the industry and how did you get into it?
I've been in the trailer industry all my life, right from when I left school in 1979, starting out as an apprentice at a local trailer manufacturer. I used to look at the smart sales guys in their suits, walking their customers around the shop floor, and said to myself, "I want to do that one day". Luckily, I got the chance and took it!
What does a typical day for you involve?
The view looks a bit different since the pandemic. My daily tasks include managing my customer portfolio, prospecting for new business, liaising with and supporting the branch network, particularly Carrington. I also work closely with the leadership team to help keep TIP at the forefront of an increasingly challenging industry sector.
What is your biggest work achievement?
Other than getting into that suit, it would be managing a large customer account since 2015. I had been nurturing the account for many years previously, so, having gained their trust and respect, the team and myself helped transfrom the account from being one of our smallest 'PayGo' accounts to one of our largest customers in the UK.
What is a fun/interesting fact about yourself?
When working for a high profile business in the late 90’s, I was asked by my managing director to take part in a promotional video for a new derivative of clean diesel. The host of this video was none other than ‘punk princess’ Toyah Wilcox! We spent a day filming together and I even took her to lunch and enjoyed a glass of Pinot Grigio. Her stories from the punk era were fascinating, particularly as I was growing up during the punk explosion.
