TIP trials another e-reefer technology - this time its axle energy recuperation!

Hot on the heels of its first UK trial of non-diesel trailer refrigeration systems, TIP is now trialling an alternative e-reefer technology, this time one that utilises energy recovered during braking or driving downhill to power the trailer’s refrigeration unit.

The axle energy recuperation system, co-developed by Thermo King and BPW, stores the energy generated from such activity in a high voltage battery which, in turn, provides power to the refrigeration unit when needed.

The trial sees a brand new TIP refrigerated trailer go into operation on UK roads by its customers that have already declared an interest in experiencing the new temperature-controlling technology.

Reports on the capability and efficiency of the e-reefer technology during use on UK roads will be produced as part of the trial and made available to interested parties.

TIP’s move towards decarbonised refrigeration transportation continues with its ongoing programme of trialling the different ‘e-reefer’ trailer technologies available.
